Natural Antibiotics

There are plenty of natural antibiotics to pick from. Here are just a few we enjoy using, what we use them for, and how we use them. Of course we are not medical professionals and you should always seek the advice of a trusted vet before administering medicine. We recommend a holistic one.

Raw apple cider vinegar

We use raw apple cider vinegar for a wide range of things. We use it in our puppies water to promote good gut bacteria, shiny coats, and to prevent urinary tract infections. We will also use it for ear infections, bug bites, ringworm(fungus skin infection), to kill fleas and ticks, and to treat any other bacteria or fungus related issue. Also because we raise our dogs holistically, it is an extremely rare occurrence

It's important to note that we use raw apple cider vinegar with the mother, not pasteurized ACV. Raw ACV contains the important good bacteria needed to kill the bad. Pasteurized ACV does not.

To use ACV we take one part water and mix it with one part ACV, some dogs with sensitive skin may need 2 parts water. But if you add too much water it will not be strong enough to kill the bad bacteria or fungi.

If it is an ear infection you can drop 2-3 drops of the mixture in both your dogs ears 2-3 times a day. Doing this for about a week should do the trick.

If its a skin condition you can put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray it 2-3 times a day until you see improvement. Usually this takes a couple days. I would continue to spray the area an extra 2-3 days after the issue has cleared. Your dog or cat will likely lick the ACV, this is okay.

To use it to kill fleas or ticks you can mix the ACV with unscented die free dish soap. Before you wet your dog, saturate all the way around your dogs neck and ears with the mixture. Also saturate your dogs bum. When water hits your dogs feet the fleas try to flea to the ears and bum, this will ensure they get caught. Then proceed to wash your dog as normal with the mixture.

Neem leaves

Neem leaves are a great natural antibiotic we love using for ourselves as well as our pets when needed. I actually discovered neem leaves from a veterinarian I found online while trying to find other alternatives for my cats cold. They are great for respiratory infections, bladder infections, and I have even used them to cure mastitis.

You can find them in capsule form online and give between 100-200mg per 10lbs.

elderberry syrup

Elderberry syrup is a great antiviral. It has been scientifically proven to stop viruses from attaching to our cells and shorten our time sick. We will give it to our dogs if we ever notice they have a runny nose or appear to be catching a cold.

We give about 1/2 a tsp 3 times a day for a 50lbs dog.
